At mass conducted by Greg
Chisholm (Catholic priest) and Dan Heap(Anglican
priest). Note the tall bearded young man. He was a
Honduran working in the camp in support of the
refugees. Later Brownstone learned that he had
been seized by the army incarcerated and tortured.
In a subsequent visit Brownstone met him
clandestinely in Tegucigalpa and was told about his
terrible experiences during his incarceration. (He
was released on the appeal of a bishop).
Brownstone asked to see his wounds as verification.
However he had clearly recovered physically but
the light had clearly gone from his eyes displaying
severe trauma. As Chair of of Oxfam Brownstone
gave him a special grant and pleaded with him to
go to Costa Rica for medical care and personal recovery-since living in Honduras in hiding and constant fear was not a viable option.Colomancagua, Honduras, ca. 1985.
